Helena Santos Silva is an Associate Professor at the Department of Education and Psychology at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) since 2004 and integrated researcher at the Center for Educational Research and Intervention at the University of Porto (CIIE). Her main research interests and publications are related to teaching and learning methodologies and teacher professional development, emphasising cooperative learning, formative assessment, critical and creative thinking and communities of practice.
She participated in several national and international events and/or conferences as a member of the scientific and organizing committee, namely in the scientific and organizing committee of the 2nd International Seminar on Critical Thinking and in the scientific committees of the ATEE Winter Conference ‘Science and mathematics education in the 21st century, XVIII ENEC – National Meeting of Science Education III ISSE – International Seminar of Science Education Education and the XIX ENEC- National Meeting of Science Education / IV ISSE International Seminal on Science Education: Transversalities: Dialogues and Interactions. She is a founding member since 2012 of UTAD’s multidisciplinary community of sharing and practice on critical and creative thinking (webPACT). She participated in national and international projects, namely in the Pedagogical Innovation projects “Critical Thinking in Higher Education Network” funded by FCT and in the European Erasmus + project “Crithinkedu: Critical Thinking Across the European Higher Education Curricula” and in the international project of the OECD- CERI “Fostering and Assessing Creativity and Critical Thinking Skills in Higher Education”.
She is regularly invited to doctoral seminars at the University of Aveiro on critical thinking, at the University of Porto for Master’s Seminars on Cooperative Learning and online conferences at Brazilian Universities on Cooperative Learning. She has co-authored 10 books on Education published. And she trains educators and teachers at various levels of education, including higher education, especially in the field of Cooperative Learning, Formative Assessment and Critical and Creative Thinking.
