Caroline Dominguez is an Assistant Professor in business/industrial management at the School of Science and Technology of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), where she has taught several Curricular Units since 2006 in various Engineering department courses. Researcher at the LabDCT at UTAD at the at the Center for Research in Didactics and Technology in Trainer Training (CIDTFF) of University of Aveiro and at the Center for Transdisciplinary Studies for Development (CETRAD) at UTAD.

Her main pedagogical and scientific interests and publications are centred on the areas of teaching/learning, namely the development of critical thinking in higher education and management (project, operations, human resources and quality, environmental and more recently in the tourism area). She has published 30 book chapters (national and international), 33 articles in international conferences, and more than 40 scientific articles in peer-reviewed international journals, of which around 30 are indexed in the Web of Science or Scopus. She supervised 23 master’s theses and 2 doctoral theses. 


She is a founding member and has coordinated since 2012 the multidisciplinary community of sharing and practice on critical and creative thinking at UTAD (webPACT). Participates(or) in national and international projects, namely as coordinator of the Pedagogical Innovation projects “Critical Thinking in Higher Education Network” financed by FCT and the European project Erasmus + “Crithinkedu: Critical Thinking Across the European Higher Education Curricula” and is a member (currently) of the OECD-CERI international project “Fostering and Assessing Creativity and Critical Thinking Skills in Higher Education”. She coordinated two special editions of Lusófona Journal on Critical Thinking in Education (nº 32 and nº 44) and a special edition on the same subject in the international journal Studies in Higher Education, nº 44 (5).

Participated as a guest speaker (for example, at the OECD) or as a proponent of articles in various events and/or conferences in national and international bodies on the promotion of critical thinking in teaching/learning, having, among others, coordinated (or co-coordinated) the organization of the 2nd International Seminar on Critical Thinking (2015), the 1st European Seminar for the Education of Critical Thinking in Leuven (2019) and the Special Tracks on the subject at the Tech Edu conferences 2018, 2020 and 2022, among others. She organised the 3 past editions of “Critical Thinking Day” at UTAD. She is regularly invited to doctoral seminars at the University of Aveiro and Porto on pedagogical innovation and critical thinking and at events such as pedagogical innovation awards (either as a proponent of pedagogical innovation experiences (for example, at the University of Porto) or as a guest speaker at the “Jornadas de Inovação Pedagógica” (at the University of Coimbra in 2022). She is an integral member of several scientific commissions and the Portuguese Society for the Teaching of Engineering (SPEE). Participated as a trainer in several courses on Critical Thinking at different levels of schooling, including higher education, having been on the coordinating team of the proposal for the course “How to promote Critical Thinking (5 days) in my Curricular Unit” accredited by UTAD, carried out in some institutions in the country. Co-coordinated the book “Educating for critical thinking in the classroom. Planning, strategies and evaluation”, published by PACTOR in 2019.
